We recommend bringing your car in for transmission service every two years or 60,000 to 100,000 miles to keep it running smoothly. We've broken down exactly what happens during a routine transmission service below. When you need transmission service for your automatic or manual vehicle, come to Gibbon Tire and Auto in Charlotte, NC.

Automatic Transmission Service

When you need automatic transmission service, we will begin with a fluid flush. Transmission fluid maintains the transmission gears by cleaning, lubricating, and cooling them. The fluid becomes dirty over time and no longer performs as well. We completely drain the old transmission fluid and replace it with fresh fluid per the manufacturer's recommendations for your vehicle. We'll also make sure the plug that holds the fluid in place isn't damaged. We will then clean or replace your transmission filter if it is dirty or damaged.

Manual Transmission Service

Transmission fluid serves the same purpose in manual transmissions as it does in automatic transmissions, with a few exceptions. Transmission fluid not only lubricates the gears and keeps parts cool, but it is also responsible for smooth shifting. If the owner's manual specifies it, automatic transmission fluid can be used in a manual transmission. Older transmissions may necessitate the use of gear lube or motor oil.

Complete Transmission Service

As part of a full service, we will additionally remove, clean, and inspect the sump and pan to ensure that they are not damaged. A new gasket is also installed on the pan. We can inspect the transmission for signs of wear and tear during this process.
